The project realized to adapt to theaccessible standards is an experience that is part of the evolution of inclusive design and is part of a wider research and development program - "Ergonomic Project, Fenice Shipyard" - aimed to remove the physical barriers in complex spaces and for the multiple functions of boats and related service infrastructures.
The adaptation of the two sailboats has as fundamental requirement of being used by diversified users, which can also include people with physical disabilities as guests and at the same time participants involved in the operations of boat management.
The objective of the project is to allow even the person with physical disabilities to navigate, participating actively in command operations fully autonomously and safely.
The technical design solutions allow the disabled person to the maximum possible range of motion, access to the controls and use of the spaces below without changing the performance of environmental comfort that distinguishes the boat.
In practice, the project provides the positioning of a specific mobile aid that can be customized in the seat that allows the movements in the cockpit area and access to the controls; below the deck it controls the minimum functional levels of the rooms by modifying some furnishing elements, increasing the opening space of the doors and raising the flooring again.
